Dating Brett 5 years and “waiting” during that time led me to become creative in my prayer time. I needed little reminders to help me stay focus, and also give me a pep talk when my accountability partners were not available.
I drove a Ford Ranger throughout college and cut out scripture to put on my visor and dashboard. So… when I was driving to meet Brett on a date, the entire way over I was repeating God’s Word over and over to myself. Here are the two I wrote out:
“I have kept your word hidden in my heart so I may not sin against you.”
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6 & 7
I wrote these on pretty stationary paper, cut them out and left them in my truck throughout college and into our engagement. They encouraged me when I drove to meet Brett and they comforted me when I fell short. I love scripture, and I love how it changes your circumstances when you declare it over your life. I know Jesus was interwoven in every aspect of my life, I wanted Him to. Yes, there were days were I felt so ashamed… I came before Him for forgiveness AGAIN, but He never rejected me.
I also listened to a couple of songs that spoke to my heart it such great ways. They are oldies but goodies now, but maybe they will speak to you too.
Jaci Velasquez: “I Promise”
Stacie Orrico: “Everything”
Rebecca St. James: “Wait for Me” (So good!)
Here is another song you need to look up, “Marry Me” by Ed Cash. Brett and I danced to this song at our wedding and I absolutely LOVE the lyrics. I couldn’t find it on You Tube but maybe you can or on itunes.
What are your little reminders? Maybe you can use some of mine. They help, they really do and during your time of “waiting” you should never feel alone.
Love you True Beauties,
